Toshiba HD-A2

Wal-Mart has decided to sell the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player at a discounted price of $98.87 to get the holiday shopping season started early. So much for the second gen Panasonic’s Bluray DMP. Slated for today only, if you are reading this, you are probably too late unless you are on the west coast and the time is before noon. They are also offering Acer laptops for $348.00 and Sanyo 50-inch Plasma HDTVs for $998.00.
We poked around to find what was going on at the other stores, where the player is still being offered for $299.99.  We did find a GPX Player at a sale price of $25.00 at Kmart. We know someone who bought one of these and although it is slow, it works. Now that’s a bargain.

Simpsons Shot Glass Set

We recently told you about the Pac-Man Collectors’ Shot Glass set, and now we’ve found this item. As any Simpsons fan knows, Homer enjoys the occasional Duff beer at Moe’s Tavern. So it makes sense there’s now a 6-piece stainless steel drinking set with hip flask, funnel, and four shot glasses. Each is decorated with a picture of Homey and one of his many catchphrases. It even comes in a gift box for that special someone…we just wish it came with a recipe for a ‘‘Flaming Moe.” Available for $30 USD.

$100 iPhone Credit

has finally gotten around to posting the details on how early owners can claim their $100 Apple Store credit. You know, the one that was a response to the backlash the company received after dropping the price on the iPhone by $200 - or 33% - just 61 days after it’s launch? It takes about five minutes, and Apple has done it in a way that makes it so only people who actually have the purchased iPhone in their possession, and activated with , can claim it. Here’s how it works:

  1. Head on over to the iPhone Store Credit page
  2. Input your iPhone’s AT&T phone number and serial number into the fields on the site
  3. You will receive an SMS which includes an access code. Enter the code into the site
  4. Print the result page, which includes the codes you need to redeem the credit at any Apple Store location, or at the Apple Online Store

To be safe, we’d recommend claiming right away, as you only have until November 30 to do so. If you bought your iPhone between August 22 and September 4, skip straight to the Apple Store itself, as you aren’t eligible for a $100 store credit - instead, you’ll just receive $200 in cash. For those who receive the credit, you can purchase just about anything sold by Apple, except another Apple Store Gift Card or an iTunes electronic Gift Certificate. You can use up to six credit codes when making a purchase at an Apple Retail Store and up to four credit codes at the Apple Online Store.

Fergie's Hummer

You have another chance to own a piece of a celebrity. Fergie was so moved by the sentiment of Live Earth that she decided to sell her Hummer on eBay and donate all of the proceeds to Global Green. The auction is part of eBay’s attempt at helping to save the planet with its Giving Works program, which donates 10 to 100% of sellers’ proceeds to benefit environmental charities. The bidding war will go on until Sept. 14, with the current bid around $64,000. We were just thinking that with all the gas it takes to move a Hummer, perhaps a better idea would be to offer up a more fuel-efficient vehicle.

Pregnant Animatronic

What costs $12,000, is pregnant, but will never give birth? That would be this audio-animatronic, custom designed female bot up for sale on eBay. She was originally designed to demonstrate ultrasound equipment but we guess that her owner no longer needs her services. The unnamed robot (we’ll just call her Mom,) can move her eyes, mouth, eyebrows, nod, turn, go up on her elbows, rotate, and curl her wrists. After programming, she could also sing to her unborn bot while moving.

If you are interested, the seller would be willing to send you a DVD of her performance. You had better hurry though, as the bidding is set to end September 2. Frankly, as talented as Mom appears to be, we can’t envision living with robotic hormones running rampant.

Folger Commercial Entrant

While we were doing research on women who have better memory retention by drinking coffee, we noticed that Folgers is willing to help you age with more awareness with a free sample. We call that great timing. They also invite you to make your own commercial on their site, and they will donate $1.00 to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Los Angeles (up to $150,000) each time you create one or vote for others’. We figure that you will get such a rush from the caffeine in their gourmet coffee that your creativity will kick into maximum mode.
